Professionals

For the self-employed: work and dates, fees and deposits, reverse charge, tax estimate.

What it does

Runs a one-person practice: your work and its dates, fixed fees with a deposit or hourly billing, GST invoices (or none if you are not registered), sharing a fee with others, and an estimate of your income tax, advance tax and TDS. Made for photographers, models, artists, musicians, advocates and consultants: screens use your words, such as Shoots, Gigs or Matters.

Getting started

  1. Open Practice Settings. Choose your profession and your business, and set your usual hourly rate and deposit.
  2. Tick I am registered for GST only if you are. Leave presumptive taxation (section 44ADA) on unless your accountant keeps full books.
  3. Add your clients, then your first piece of work.

Everyday work

  • Add each job (a shoot, a gig, a matter, a commission) with the client, a fixed fee or hourly rate, and its dates: shoot days, hearings, rehearsals, deliveries.
  • You get an email (and a chat message, if connected) the day before each date.
  • Log your hours on hourly work. Add the people you share the fee with, such as a second shooter or band members, and see each one's amount.
  • Press Invoice the client. A fixed fee asks for the deposit now and the rest by the last date. The client can pay by UPI or a payment link.
  • Open Tax Estimate to see what you have billed this year, your estimated income tax, the TDS your business clients should deduct, and the advance tax due dates.

Good to know

  • Advocates billing a business with a GSTIN: the invoice carries no GST because the client pays it under reverse charge. This is ticked for you.
  • The Bar Council does not allow advocates to advertise, so do not publish a promotional page.
  • Under section 44ADA, half your receipts count as income and all advance tax is due by 15 March. The estimate warns you as you near the ₹20 lakh GST limit or the ₹75 lakh presumptive limit.
  • The tax estimate is a guide, not tax advice: confirm figures with your accountant before you pay.
